Case of the month

Correction of leg alignment of both bow legs done at the same time

  • This 44 year old lady had bow legs on both side. I was causing pain and difficulty in walking. The treatment in such cases is to correct the deformity by cutting the bone and realigning it. It needs a period of recovery for 3 months. The other knee, in such cases is done 3 months later with similar duration of recovery. This means the patient is out of function for almost a year, and two hospital admissions are required. We decided to do surgery on both the legs at the same time. Though it means an initial difficulty of being in bed for 1 month, but overall recover periods is cut down to three months.
